Every season there are a handful of fashion trends that tend to intimidate people. Leather pants, denim on denim, and crop tops are just a few that top the list. After years of trial and error, I have fortunately been able to gauge whether or not a trend is for me before even wearing it. For example the stiletto/claw nails? Not for me. I manage to scratch myself on the daily with short rounded nails and much more, I imagine, with baby knives at the end of each finger. But for some (less harmful) trends that are exciting but unknown, it could be a bit overwhelming to try it out yourself.
For fall specifically, the ever-trending faux fur vest is a fabulous way to stay warm and make a statement. Although the idea of wearing faux fur sounds glamorous, it could very easily leave you looking like a fluffy hibernating bear. Now there are plenty of ways to wear the faux fur but, if you find yourself a bit lost, I have a few tips to help you make your fall outfit a success!
Rule #1: Don’t Mix and Match Too Many Colors and Patterns.
Faux fur is already a lot to take in, visually speaking. Throwing on some neons or leopard print underneath could come off a bit overwhelming. Cream, black, or neutrals are always a safe bet!
Rule #2: Dress it up!
I like to pair my faux fur with chunky, costume jewelry. It gives the fur a fun and feminine touch while allowing yourself to sparkle a bit. I decided to go with a flashy necklace and daintier bracelets.
Rule #3: Pick Neutral Shoes.
Keeping the focus on one area of your outfit is best when wearing an accent piece. Picking a shoe/boot that is in the same color family as your vest will make the whole outfit come together.
Rule #4: OWN IT!
Let’s be honest, you’re wearing a faux fur vest. You had no intentions of being subtle when you bought it! The best way to wear ANY trend is to know you’re wearing it because it makes you feel fabulous and isn’t that all fashion really is? Find what makes you feel amazing and then roll with it!
