Dupe VS Fake: Whats the difference?
There’s a lot of controversy about dupes and their place in the fashion industry, but to quickly address it, here’s the break down:
- Dupes: short for “duplicate”, LEGAL to sell and purchase in the US, inspired by iconic prints and designs, contains NO logos or brand names
- Fakes: ILLEGAL to sell in the US, contains original logos and brand names, exact replicas
Personally, as a fashionista on a student budget, I think dupes are a wonderful way to achieve the same high-end look of a lot less. Granted it takes a lot of searching for the high quality dupes, but when you get your hands on one it’s almost as satisfying as the real thing! So i’m here to share two of my favorite dupes!
- Valentino Rockstud T-Strap Pump – I’ll admit, I think I fell in love with this iconic piece because everyone else around me was in love with it. Every model, celebrity, and blogger was wearing these and soon enough I caught myself dreaming of these pumps. At a little less than $1K (here) , it’s almost impossible for any student to afford these! Introducing these gorgeous, leather patent dupes by Kaitlyn Pan (here). The outer material is genuine patent leather with genuine lambskin insoles. With over 360 reviews of 4.5 stars, I knew I had to try them. The quality of the material is so soft and beautiful as well as the details in the studs. I even got stopped by girls that owned Valentino pumps and they couldn’t tell the difference! At only $115, it was an easy choice!
- Chloe Drew Shoulder Bag – This was definitely a bag I fell in love with immediately! It’s beautiful, sleek, and timeless. The dainty knotted chain wrap and gold accents made this an instant classic Chloe piece. The problem? Well at $1,850, it definitely costs a pretty penny. When I decided to order this genuine leather dupe from (here), I was a but skeptical. I wasn’t sure if the material and shades would match the original, but when it arrived it was everything I was hoping for. The details in the stitching and leather were beautifully done!
Don’t get me wrong, if you have a little to spend on the iconic originals, by all means do it! As an avid collector of luxury brandname bags and accessories, there’s nothing like feeling the craftsmanship and artistry that goes into these beautiful pieces. When I graduate from dental school, I’ll definitely go back and buy the original Chloe Drew bag, but for now as a girl on a budget, these dupes will do just fine!
I’ve already gushed about these jeans on my IG, but they are the most comfortable ones I’ve ever owned. They’re perfect for all-day wear and they’re on sale! So definitely check them out. I’m wearing a 4 short and they didn’t need any alterations. I have curvier legs than a lot of girls my height, so I love that they stretch! Also, the sweater i’m wearing will be on repeat all season. It has the cutest keyhole neckline and high slits on the side – perfect for the cooler weather! You won’t believe me if I told you, but it was only $17! I’m definitely going to order it in more colors.
